Wheatfield Town Picnic
On Sunday, July 29th Dental Care Associates volunteered for the 3rd
consecutive year at the Wheatfield town picnic. Sponsoring the kids tent, Dental Care worked
in conjunction with the Niagara County Sheriff's Department
giving away toothprints. Toothprints are used as a DNA sample and tooth record for children who
are missing. The sheriff's department took pictures of the children and
took fingerprints for use in cases where a child is abducted. We
also offered "toss the teeth into the mouth," a game where kids had to get 3 teeth
into the mouth and upon doing this they received a
free kids toothbrush along with a toothchart for keeping track of their brushing.
Also at the picnic was Nickel City Reptile who educated children and adults about reptiles and their care,
a bird santuary, and a wild life preservation group with a tiger and baby bear were
also there among many others. The picnic was a great success. We handed out
150 toothprints and approxiatemly 175 toothbrushes to young children. Thanks to all who stopped by to see us.
Dental Health Month School Visits
During the month of February, Dental Care Associates visited some local
school to help teach the importance of brushing and flossing their
teeth. We visited approximately 25 classes in grades pre-k through
second grade.
Our program taught children what they would see in the dental office
such as the gloves, masks, instruments, as well as what they are used
for. With Mojo as our patient, we went over what would happen at their
visit, how to brush and floss your teeth properly, how many times your
should brush and floss your teeth and how many times you should visit
the dentist. Healthy and unhealthy snacks and drinks were brought in
for the kids to decide whether the snacks or drinks were good for your
teeth or bad and how to tell if a snack was a good one or bad one. At
the end of the show each student was given a new toothbrush.
If you or someone you know would like to schedule their class a visit
from Mojo Monkey to teach children the importance of dental health
please call Kristine at 297.1644 ext 37.
